Note that, contrary to a popular misconception, carbon dating is not used to date rocks at millions of years old.Before we get into the details of how radiometric dating methods are used, we need to review some preliminary concepts from chemistry.Examples: For all of these, and more, reasons, calibration is needed in C-14 dating.Thus, reports generally specify the ‘raw’ numbers and the ‘fudged’ numbers.This does not mean that recalibration is bad, indeed it is necessary, but it should make one more soberly assess any reported dates as being tentative.The problem is that most people reporting on these issues fail to report the initial number along with the calibrated date. The Jericho controversy is soundly rooted in C-14 calibration.Because the theory of evolution requires millions of years to be viable, a young earth position is in direct opposition to that theory.However, in many cases carbon dating has not assisted evolutionists in the attempt to prove the theory of evolution. If in fact it is millions of years old it should have no traces of carbon -14 in it.
While this may baffle many scientists it makes perfect sense to creation scientists who believe that the earth is relatively young.
I read the scientific article on the carbon dating done on the Jericho site written by Bruins and Van Der Plicht.
When I did the math from their results section of the YBP, they all turned out to be right around the year 1400 .
So, a carbon atom might have six neutrons, or seven, or possibly eight—but it would always have six protons.
An “isotope” is any of several different forms of an element, each having different numbers of neutrons.
